In the Ayr Sprint Cup it is never that easy to find a winner but looking for a Dandy Nicholls trainer runner is a good start.

In the general chaos of around 20 to 30 horses charging over five or six furlongs that makes up top class sprint races it is often tricky to pick the animal which will avoid all the trouble and find the speed to go clear and win.
This year’s renewal of Scotland’s premier short distance contest ‘Sprint King’ trainer Dandy Nicholls is responsible for two of the 14/1 market leaders at the first show for the September 20th contest.
Wigan based bookie Totesport have made the trainer’s Tajneed and Valery Borzov, first and second in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon, the market leaders alongside Kevin Ryan’s Advanced and the Walter Swinburn trained Shifting Star.
Both Nicholls’ horses are in the form of their lives and are both well treated by the handicapper. With this in mind both should find it easier than most laying down a competitive challenge.
Last year’s winner, Advanced, has been unable to build on that success and is now without a win in 10 starts. That said a couple of decent second placed showings in pretty good company recently may be signalling a return to form and with the relatively light weight he’ll be carrying a repeat of 12 months ago shouldn’t be ruled out
Nicholl’s has claimed this contest four times in the recent past and the 3/1 Betfred offer on him doing it again could be excellent value.
